What metaphor or image describes you and why?

In my profession, I'm like a multifaceted bridge, connecting diverse industries. Much like a bridge connects geographical regions, I serve as a channel linking global networks and promote cross-cultural exchanges. With frequent travel and interaction, I help bridge gaps in communication and understanding, promoting international business and exchange.

How has your background in Economics and Commerce combined with your multilingual proficiency been an advantage in your career so far?

My education in Economics equips me with a solid foundation in analysing global markets, economic trends, and business strategies. For example, we promote French tradeshows in India. Hence, we need to do market research for our clients who are interested in investing in India.

Being multilingual enables me to communicate fluently and build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and partners from different cultural backgrounds. My diverse background also enables me to adapt quickly to ever-changing business trends.

As a Public Relations Officer, what were your top strategies for effectively engaging with clients from French and Chinese cultural backgrounds?

I adopted the following practices when I was working as a Public Relations Officer:

Cultural Background: I invested time in understanding cultural norms, etiquette, and business practices. This included researching cultural nuances in communication, decision-making, and relationship-building.

Language Proficiency and Communication Channels: Leveraging my proficiency in French, I ensured clear and effective communication in their native language. I also demonstrated an awareness of cultural sensitivities and preferences.

What challenges have you encountered in cross-cultural client interactions, and how did you overcome them?

In my role, I've faced various challenges in cross-cultural client interactions, particularly in navigating differences in communication styles and cultural expectations. One memorable instance occurred in my current project, where I had to bridge the gap between French colleagues and Indian exhibitors regarding the importance of commercial gestures. Aligning expectations and finding common ground posed a significant challenge.

To overcome these situations, I take proactive measures by fostering open dialogue to ensure clarity in communication. By emphasizing the importance of understanding cultural nuances and mutual respect in negotiations, we can bridge these gaps effectively. This approach not only strengthens our relationships with clients but also enhances our ability to navigate diverse cultural landscapes with sensitivity.

Influencer marketing is growing rapidly in India. What implications do you think this has for business communication educators and trainers in India?

The rise of influencer marketing in India means our curriculum needs updating. We must understand how influencers collaborate with brands. It's vital to blend digital marketing skills with traditional methods. Educators should teach social media analytics, creating content for influencers, and handling online reputation. Real-life success stories from Indian influencer campaigns should also be part of our lessons.

What have you learned personally and professionally from your lived experiences in a diverse society like India?

Growing up in India, a country so rich in cultures and traditions, has deeply influenced both my personal growth and professional journey. Living in Mumbai's diverse environment, I've learned to appreciate and celebrate our differences, which has given me a profound understanding and respect for diverse perspectives and experiences. This upbringing has taught me to adapt and be flexible in navigating various social norms and customs effortlessly.

On a professional level, interacting with people from diverse backgrounds has sharpened my ability to communicate effectively and collaborate smoothly in global settings. I'm grateful for India's vibrant diversity, which has been my greatest teacher, shaping me into someone who values cultural awareness and can thrive in a connected world.
